Eastern American Toad: Anaxyrus americanus |

Distribution: Southeastern Manitoba, Southern Ontario, Quebec and Labrador and all the maritime provinces. Size: Up to 4" in adults. Distinguishing Characteristics: Reddish, brown or olive skin covered with warts. Often has a light coloured line down the center of its back. Unlike the Canadian Toad, the parotoid glands do not touch the cranial crests on this species. Habitat: Found in aquatic areas primarily during breeding season, their preferred habitat is grassy or wooded areas. Diet: Insects and other invertebrates.
