Western Painted Turtle: Chrysemys picta belli

Distribution: Southern edge of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario

Size: Up to 10" carapace length

Distinguishing Characteristics: Dark olive to black plastron with red underside surrounding a dark center.

Habitat: Slow moving bodies of water including lakes, ponds and marshy areas.

Diet: Algae, carrion, fish, frogs and invertebrates.
