Northern Prairie Skink: Plestiodon septentrionalis

Distribution: Southwestern Manitoba. This is the only species of reptile found in Manitoba.

Size: Up to 8" as adults.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown with a series of lighter coloured stripes running from the head to the tail. Males preparing for breeding have an orange colour on the face.

Habitat: Sandy areas along the Assiniboine River in SE Manitoba.

Diet: Insects and other invertebrates.
