Wood Frog: Lithobates sylvaticus, formerly Rana sylvatica

Distribution: All mainland Canadian provinces, southern portions of Nunavut, Yukon and Northwest territories, and portions of Newfoundland.

Size: 2"-3" adult average

Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown in colour, often with a lighter coloured dorsal stripe. Prominent dorsolateral ridges and a black mask running through each eye and past the tympanum.

Habitat: Though found in abundance in a large variety of habitats, Wood Frogs are most commonly associated with moist woodlands or springtime pools of water in wooded areas.

Diet: Insects.
